In August, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Iași, Romania, for the 15th World Esports Championship. This prestigious event brought together the best esports talent from across the globe, and I was there to document one of the most exciting moments in Dutch esports history.
Together with Paul Beije, I followed the journey of the Dutch women’s CS:GO team as they competed on the world stage. It was more than just a tournament; it was a story of teamwork, determination, and a strong desire to succeed.
The Road to Victory
The atmosphere in Iași was electric, with teams competing for their share of the impressive $80,000 prize pool. The Dutch women’s team displayed dominance and exceptional skill throughout the tournament, losing only two matches in total and securing most of their victories with convincing 2-0 scores. Their unwavering focus and confidence were met with cheers from supporters, celebrating their commanding performance.
At the end of the grand finale on September 1, the Netherlands secured first place and the $40,00 prize. The team’s achievement was clear in their smiles and the pride they radiated on stage.
On and Off the Stage
Beyond capturing the intense action and emotional highs through photography, we also provided social media coverage for TeamNL_CS throughout the event. Sharing live updates, behind-the-scenes moments, and key highlights allowed us to connect fans back home with the incredible journey unfolding in Iași. From matchday announcements to victory posts, it was all about bringing the excitement directly to the audience.
Celebrating on the Podium
The celebration continued later that evening during Armin van Buuren’s performance. Mid-set, he invited the Dutch team on stage, giving them a special moment in the spotlight. His gesture turned the victory into an even more unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Capturing the Magic
As a photographer, documenting this journey was a true privilege. Through my lens, I captured the action, emotions, and unforgettable moments that defined the event. Alongside our social media coverage, it was an incredible opportunity to bring the excitement of esports to a broader audience.
Romania also surprised me and the people of Iași were incredibly welcoming. Experiences like this remind me why I love what I do: capturing the essence of events and sharing their stories with the world.
Conclusion
The 15th World Esports Championship was a defining moment for Dutch esports and a milestone in my career as a photographer. I’m proud to have been part of this journey, capturing history as it unfolded and sharing it with a wider audience through social media for TeamNL_CS.
Congratulations to the Dutch women’s CS:GO team on their incredible achievement
